When planning a trip to New Zealand, you quickly realize that no time is ever enough to see and do everything New Zealand has to offer. With two weeks and one additional day for a New Year's holiday, we narrowed down the things we must and had to do and packed in as much as our time and energy would allow. The Routeburn Track was on top of that list.

This story really started with a dream. When I was a freshman in college, I saw a brochure for a study-abroad program to Seville, Spain. Unfortunately, because of financial and academic restraints (I was on a strict academic track and was working almost full-time), I never pursued it. So it is safe to say, Seville was my first wanderlust destination. It took 16 years, but here we are!

This story starts with an irony. We were first introduced to diving on a cruise 10 years ago. It was our first and our last cruise as we learned quickly we were not cruise people. In fact, we vowed to never cruise again. So the idea of a live-aboard never sounded appealing, unless we would be diving The Great Barrier Reef! So we took a chance and booked a trip to Australia!
